Weather. The temperature highs will run up to nearly 80 all weekend, while the lows will be in the mid 60's. There will be winds running at about 10 mph throughout the weekend and the humidity will be in the 60's.
You can still attend Bronx street fairs, go bicycling in the Bronx NYC, play soccer & other games in Bronx parks, go shopping in the Bronx NYC, attend Bronx parades, visit a local Bronx farmers market, watch theater, visit the Bronx theaters, performing arts & art museums, and eat out at one of the Bronx restaurants.
And it's all happening right here in our favorite borough - the Bronx. So take your time to sort through the days and locations and start planning your weekend.

Art Exhibits in the Bronx & NYC - Columbus Day Weekend
Click here to view some of the in-progress art exhibits in the Bronx this Columbus Day weekend.
The Bronx Museum is located along the Grand Concourse just north and east of Yankee Stadium and they are open through the weekend.
The Edgar Allen Poe Cottage is also open but Thursdays and Fridays only. It is on Kingsbridge Road and Grand Concourse in the Fordham neighborhood. It's an historic venue, but there are frequently artistic events centered around writing.
The New York Botanical Gardens is hosting the glass sculpture exhibit by Dale Chihuli. The Botanical Gardens are located along Southern Blvd and Bronx Park Road.
In the photo to your right is one of the sculpture galleries in the Frick Museum at 70th Street and Fifth Avenue along Central Park East.
Dance, Theater & Music in the Bronx & NYC - Columbus Day Weekend

Orchard Beach in Pelham Bay Park is closed, so while there isn't any swimming, per se, on a nice day it's still a great place to visit on bicycle or via car [as the public buses only run during the summer season].
Lehman College for the Performing Arts is located along Goulden Avenue between Bedford Park Blvd West and 197th Street in the Bedford Park neighborhood. It's one of the Bronx top performance venues, but unfortunately on Columbus Day Weekend it's closed.
Manhattan College, Hostos College, Bronx College and Fordham University all organize and sponsor events, but I suspect that like Lehman they don't do much over the Columbus Day Weekend.
An example of an interesting venue is shown in the photo to your right, where the Neville Dance Theatre Company is performing at the Alvin Ailey Dance Studios in west Midtown NYC.

Bicycling in the Bronx & NYC
Bronx has a number and growing list of bike paths. Click here to view a report about bike laws in NYC so you can ride safely. There's a program called Citi Bikes, which allows you to rent a bike using your credit card. Where ever you find bike racks filled with blue bicycles - take a closer look and it's probably a Citi Bike rack and you can rent a bike from there and return it to any of their racks around NYC.
We're working on a useable map of bike trails in the Bronx, since we couldn't find one we liked. In the photo to your right are the 5 Boro Bike Riders cruising through the Upper East Side NYC on their way to the Queensboro Bridge.
Kyaking Along The East River in the Bronx & NYC
There are a couple of kyaking clubs that operate in the NYC Metro area. Generally they will provide free use of kyaks or charge only a nominal fee. Currently there's free kyaking or canoeing along the Bronx River with the Bronx River Alliance. And there's also Rocking the Boat.org at Hunts Point Riverside Park at Lafayette Avenue between Edgewater Road and the Bronx River on Saturday only from 1 to 6 pm [ends Labor Day & started Memorial Day Weekend].
Dining in the Bronx & NYC
If you know where to look, the food in the Bronx has always been good. The variety of restaurant choices is difficult to match anywhere, and if you look carefully, you can find good food at reasonable prices too.
Italian food along Arthur Avenue in Belmont is just the beginning of a culinary journey through the Bronx. City Island is known for its seafood restaurants. And there's plenty of cuisines from around the Caribbean and the world in between.
Click here to view the Bronx Restaurants NYC section of the site, which includes reviews of the restaurants we've selected to review. As of this writing, we've identified some of our old favorites, but haven't done the deep dive yet.
